Tips on cleaning imitation pearls
2010-06-15 09:11:00
While most of us may cannot afford real pearls, the imitation pearls will become our beset choice. A string of imitation pearls can be a great addition to your collection of trinkets. If your set has begun to yellow, it may need polishing to restore its shine. Here will be some tips that may help you in cleaning of the imitation pearls.
1. Avoid damage to the sealer while cleaning, so be sure to identify cracked or chipped areas which should be left alone. Look over your pearls to make sure the thin coating on your pearls has not chipped or led to peeling; scrubbing it can cause further damage to the layer of paint that makes them shine.
2. Put warm water and mild liquid soap into a bowl. Pick the size of bowl according to how large the pearls are or how long the strand is. Putting too many in the water all at once is not a good idea.
3. The threading tends to hold dirt and oil and can become quite grimy. So please allow the pearls to sit for several minutes to loosen up dirt, grime and oil that has collected on the item.
4. Remove the pearls from the bowl and lay them flat on a dry towel. Lightly pat the pearls dry. Also, make sure the clasp is completely dry. Check the metal clasp to see if it is wet. Dry the clasp completely. If you allow water to sit too long on the clasp it may rust ruining another element of your faux pearl necklace.
Even if you can’t afford real pearls that’s no reason not to keep the faux version looking just as pristine and elegant. Imitation pearls have the same luxurious look as real natural pearls. Cleaning them on a regular basis will keep them from turning colors and expand the life and use of your item. By following a few easy steps, you can make your pearls look new again.
