Because most of the turquoise is has been treated with plastic bonding, chemical vapor penetration and paraffin, it is popular on today market, if the turquoise without treatment, most turquoise will absorb chemicals from its environment and earth and change to a greenish color over many years, due to the porous nature of the gemstone.
Many years ago it was soft and light colored, if you place turquoise into a liquid plastic resin, you will find that it will absorb the plastic into the pore spaces. This method that produces a material of a deeper color; you also will know when the plastic is hardened, a much stronger stone.
The method is called 'enhancing' that is a newer processes being used today, this process actually adds silica into turquoise, in order to intensify its hardness and color. Because of the plastic, this treatment adds new material to the turquoise, but he actual chemical structure of the turquoise does not change.
