Making guide on artificial stones for jewelry
2010-07-06 17:41:00
Making artificial jewelry is a way to show your imagination on jewelry design. Not only can you put your own personal stamp on the jewelry item you have made, but the stones will be original creations, too.
Firstly, grind pieces of colored chalk into a fine powder with a metal edge ruler until you have the desired amount. Then mix in powder containing talc at a 2:3 ratio. Baby powder is the common item.
Secondly, pinch off a ball of paper clay one-sixth of the size of the powder mixture. Make slip by dissolving the clay in water. It should make a thick milky liquid.
Thirdly, mix and knead the mixture. If it is too crumbly, add slip. If it is too wet, allow it to dry for a bit. Find a mold in stones shaped, and place the mixture into the desired shape and set it to dry in a warm place avoid direct sunlight or extreme heat.
Forth, after the mixture form a stone shape; use some shaping methods to make it perfect, such as grinding and chiseling.
Now artificial stones have been made completely, and it’s time to use the artificial stone in a piece of jewelry, as you would a real piece of stone jewelry.
