Tahitian pearls are one of the most luxurious pearls available. The size of the pearls is large, starting at 8mm and can range up to the huge 14mm.. When it comes to Tahitian pearl grading, it often apply the AAAA Pear Quality System, and with this system Tahitian pearl can particularly considers three different factors such as shape, luster, and surface quality for grading.
1. The shape of the pearl: Pearls grow in various shapes, from baroque to perfectly round. The degree of sphericity or roundness determines its value. ①Non-symmetrical, off-round slightly irregular Tahitian pearls will get a Grade A. ② Round to casual observer, slight off-round symmetry pearls get Grade AA. ③Near perfect round symmtery pearls get Grade AAA. ④The pearls are of a perfect spherical shape will get Grade AAAA.
2. The luster of the pearl: Luster can be defined as shine with depth. When the pearl has good luster, you will be able to see a sharp contrast creating the illusion resembling a ball. It is a very important value factor for grading pearls.① Nice light reflection, reflected image slightly fuzzy pearls get Grade A. ② Pearls with very nice reflection will get Grade AA. ③ Pearls with nice, sharp, and very clear reflection will get Grade AAA. ④ Pearls with outstanding luster, amazing reflection and clarity will get Grade AAAA.
3. The surface of the pearl: Surface quality refers the quality of the skin of the pearl free from any potential small blisters, pimples, spots or cracks. ①Grade A: 75% of the pearl surface is clean, but imperfections are visible on the surface, this kinds of pearls will get. ②Grade AA: 85% surface is clean. When you look closely it is possible to see small and occasional imperfections. ③Grade AAA: 95% surface is clean, imperfections that are not easy to find, and could only be found by carefully study. ④Grade AAAA: 99% of the pearl surface is clean, only extremely details and up-close study of the pearl may spot some very minor imperfections.
The three factors are important factors to determine the grade of Tahitian pearls. If a pearl that has Grade AAAA luster, Grade AA surface, Grade AAA shape, then it still de graded as AA because the Surface is AA.
