Making guide on horsehair bracelet
2010-07-10 13:38:00
Horsehair, taken from the mane and tail of a horse, provides you with a durable, long and thick fiber that can be introduced to a number of fashionable accessories. Making a horsehair bracelet proves to be an easy task.
Collect horse hairs that are about a foot in length and have small bundle about in the width of your thumb. Straighten the 1-inch-thick strand of horsehair and tie one end securely into a small tight knot.
Wrap an elastic band at the far end of the horse hair. Squeeze a small amount of glue into the hollow end of a toggle jewelry fixture. Make sure to select a fixture with a hollowed area in which to insert thick jewelry.
Insert the thin metal wire into the center of the bundle. Make sure the elastic band is wrapped tightly, as to hold the hairs and wire in place. Allow up to 10 minutes for the glue to dry.
Comb the hair gently to remove any tangles. Separate the 1-inch-thick strand of horsehair into three separate strands of equal size. Keep the wire in the center of the middle section of hair. Slide a bead of your choice up the length of the central strand of horsehair. Make sure the bead slides all the way to the jewelry fixture. Braid the hair, concealing the metal wire, until you reach the bottom of the bundle.
Slide a second bead of your choice up the central strand of hair until the bead meets the last plait of the braid snugly. Repeat this process for the beginning of the braid, binding the silk cord in front of the elastic band. Remove elastic band. Trim off excess hair.
Pull the silk cord through the cap end and secure it to the end of your bracelet. The hair slips into the cap end, providing a neat appearance. Repeat this process for the other end of your bracelet.
Glue the free end into the other end of the hollowed toggle jewelry fixture and allow the bracelet 10 minutes to dry. Slip the metal beads over the hair and position where desired. You may choose to have an attractive bead or charm in the center of your bracelet, as a focal point.
Now you have learnt how to make horsehair bracelet, and you can wear it for your daily wearing. But do remember to remove horse hair jewelry before bathing or swimming.
