If a stone has a pointed edge, you should also consider placing additional padding around the end points, which will protect the perfect appearance of the gemstones. You can use a cotton ball over each end before you put them into bags.
Certain precious gemstones such as emerald should not become too dry or they may crack by themselves. For this reason, these gemstones should be re-oiled frequently and the frequency depends upon the climate of your location. This is also a good way to prolong the life of your gemstones; otherwise it will damage your gemstones or shorten their life.
