History of earrings

The history of earrings can dated back to 3,000 B.C., when the first piece of earrings appeared in Middle East. The oldest earrings were founded in the royal graves. Back to that time, two types of earrings: the hoop and more elaborate pendant existed. The earrings were simple ways to find wearer’s religious, political or tribal identity.
In the second century A.D, elaborate earrings appeared as a result of the crafted of metals. At that time, metals were bent and twisted into different designs and gemstones were introduced.
But in the Middle Ages, because of the elaborate hairstyles and headdresses, earrings become almost non-existent.
Until the 16th century, earrings won its position again after high collars disappeared. And designs of earrings become more complex. The girandole earrings became very popular. They are large and heavy for the metals they contained. Later in the 18th century, people welcome the popular pendeloque earrings, which were much lighter.
Early in the 19th century, the earrings disappeared for the hairstyle changes, the hair gathered in a knot at the back. The new style makes the earrings difficult to wear.
After WWI, shorter hairdos brought back the earrings. The earrings to match short hair became fashion statement.
Ina long time, the earrings changes many times to be popular. Earring eventually played essential part in women’s life.
Today, both women and men love to choose their unique earrings to show their personality.
