How to make a three-strand necklace
2010-09-17 09:25:48
A three-strand necklace is a more substantial piece of jewelry that looks elegant with any beads you choose to match it with. Smaller beads are less cumbersome to work with when making your first three-strand necklace. You can make one with a multi-strand jewelry clasp and cable that holds up under pressure and use.
Choose a three loop necklace fastener. There should be three prominent holes in the metal work for ease of use.
Cut three strands of Tiger-tail or your favorite necklace cable at the lengths you desire plus 5 inches each.
Put a crimping bead on the end of the shortest piece of cable. This is the piece which will be closest to the neck.
Thread the cable through the bottom hole in the three strand jewelry clasp. Feed the cable end through the crimping bead to take up the excess cable. You will have cable through the bead, on through the hole in the clasp and back through the bead again.
Use the pliers to gently squeeze or crimp the bead over the cable, securing it permanently to the clasp.
Repeat Steps 3 through 6 with the other side of the jewelry clasp to complete the first necklace strand. Hold the end of the strand securely to keep the beads from slipping off of the cable.
Pick any color to match your outfit, I would recommend using 2 different colors for Czech beads and pick a different shade for seed beads. Have fun! Enjoy your time to make a three-strand necklace!
